Biography

Andrew Harris earned Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance and Master of Music in Piano Performance from universities in the USA. From 2010 to 2012 he was a member of the Young Artists Program of the Chicago Opera Theater. In 2012 he started as a scholarship holder at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, later becoming a permanent ensemble member.

His roles include. Fafner in Das Rheingold and Siegfried, Fasolt/Das Rheingold, Stephano Collona/Rienzi, Reinmar von Zweter/Tannhäuser, Titurel/Parsifal, Doktor/Wozzeck, Roger Mortimer/Edward II, Don Basilio/Il barbiere di Siviglia, Timur/Turandot, Masetto/Don Giovanni, Quince/A Midsummer Night's Dream, Luther and Crespel/Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Alessio/La sonnambula, Marcel/Les Huguenots, Count Horn/Un ballo in maschera, La Cuisiniére/Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen and Sparafucile/ Rigoletto.

Guest engagements have taken him to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Norwegian Opera in Oslo, Santa Fe Opera, Madrid and Palma (Mallorca) as well as to the Innsbruck Early Music Festival. He also sang Fafner in a semi-staged performance of Das Rheingold conducted by Vladimir Jurowski in Moscow and made his debut at La Scala in Milan in 2021 in live streaming productions of Salome, Weills' Mahagonny Songspiel and 7 Deadly Sins conducted by Riccardo Chailly. In 2021 with roles of Fasolt/Rheingold and Hunding/Walküre made important role debuts in the new RING at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, staged by Stefan Herheim and conducted by Sir Donald Runnicles.

2022 included his return to the Bavarian State Opera Munich in a new new production of Pendereckis' The Devils of Loudun conducted by Vladimir Jurowski/ Simon Stone and performances of Un ballo in Maschera conducted by Daniele Rustioni. At Chicago Lyric Opera he was engaged in Missy Mazzoli's chamber opera Proving Up conducted by Enrique Mazzola*.

In the 22/23 season he toured with the Mannheim National Theatre at the Daegu International Opera Festival in South Korea as Fafner in Rheingold and Siegfried under the leading team of Alexander Soddy and Yona Kim. He sang again at the Bavarian State Opera Munich in the revival of Penderecki's The Devils of Loudun and at the MET he was engaged on a cover contract as Commendatore/ Don Giovanni. At the Deutsche Oper Berlin, his roles included Sparafucile/ Rigoletto and in Detlev Glanerts' Oceane.

With the 23/24 season he can be heard at Deutsche Oper Berlin as a guest in the season premiere of Puccini's Il Trittico as well as the King in Aida and Titurel in Parsifal. He will also make his debut under the baton of Kirill Petrenko with the Berliner Philharmoniker in Baden- Baden and the Philharmonie Berlin in R. Strauss Elektra.

2024 will also see his debut with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra as Fafner in the RING conducted by Fabio Luisi and he will be heard at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam in a concert performance of Unsuk Chins' Alice in Wonderland conducted by Markus Stenz and the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest. In summer 24' he will travel to the USA to sing in Kurt Weills' Street Scenes production and Arthur Sullivans' The Pirates of Penzance in Central City, Colorado.
